The Swedish National Agency for Higher Education is the agency that supervises higher education institutions in Sweden. This means that it ensures their compliance with the laws and regulations in force in the area of higher education. It also checks that the higher education institutions discharge their obligations correctly. It does so by visiting them, these visits are called inspections.
The Swedish National Agency for Higher Education issues regulations to supplement and clarify the provisions of the Higher Education Act and the Higher Education Ordinance. These regulations are issued by the Swedish National Agency in a series of publications called Högskoleverkets författningssamling.
Support for two boardsThe Swedish National Agency also houses the offices of two boards: the Higher Education Board of Appeals and the Higher Education Suspensions Board. This means that the Agency administers and deals with the cases raised and then presents them to the appropriate board for decision.
The Higher Education Board of Appeals reviews appeals against certain decisions made in the area of higher education.
The Higher Education Suspensions Board reviews cases involving the suspension of students from higher education.
