Short Version of Annual Report 2009

THIS SUMMARY of the Swedish Universities and University Colleges Annual Report 2009 gives an outline picture of higher education activities in Sweden. The report commences in a presentation of some indicators about Swedish higher education in an international perspective. The report then summarizes developments prior to and including the fiscal year of 2008 and covers state and private universities and university colleges. In a special theme section this report describes, in greater detail, the choices and behaviour of men and women in higher education. Furthermore it offers a basic description of the academic structure in Sweden and the regulatory framework under the heading Facts about the higher education in Sweden. The subsequent section presents key data for each university and university college about students, staff and finance. Analysis in the Annual Report is based on information obtained from a number of sources, including the annual reports published by Swedish universities and university colleges and statistics produced by Statistics Sweden.
